Fill the Gap Friday #2 - reloaded

Do you catch yourself finishing other people's sentences in your head?

Well, now is the time to do it loud and proud. Every Monday, I will give you the start of a sentence that can cover various topics you come across when you are a parent. On Friday, I will then open a Linky for you to share your finished sentences, blog posts, pictures, poems or anything else that fills the gap (for you).

As Blogger didn't want to post my scheduled post, I am giving you another chance to join in with the sentence: "Before having a baby, I wish I had known...".

There are no limits - so let your creativity flow and fill those gaps. If you could pass the info about this new Linky on to everyone that might fancy joining in, that would be great. The more the merrier and if you want to share on Twitter too - why not use the hashtag #fillthegap to let everyone else know that you have updated your blog?

I'm looking forward to see you all on Friday!

Fill the Gap Friday #1 - The best thing about being a parent is...

... to see how exciting all the small things in life can be when you experience them with your baby. Before having Amy I couldn't imagine why people would get excited about their baby rolling from one side to the other or producing an explosive nappy. I mean, all babies do that, so why does everyone has to share these things on Facebook, Twitter and when meeting up for a cup of coffee?

The truth is, when you are a parent, these things mean the world to you. They are little miracles. You carry your baby for nine months. You give birth for what feels like nine months and then you hold this little fragile bundle in your arms and think it will always stay this tiny. Well, it doesn't and that's where parents including me get so excited. Babies learn so quickly. One week they are virtually sleeping all day, the other week they start looking at you with the biggest smile you can imagine. I love experiencing all those milestones with Amy. I feel blessed to see her grow up and to share all those little things with her and I can't wait for all the amazing things to come. I sometimes catch myself smiling just thinking about her starting to crawl, walk, speak and sing. I imagine us playing in the park, going to the zoo and jumping into the waves when we are spending our summers with my parents. Of course, they are all normal things but sharing them with the little person you love the most, makes them so so special and that's what I love the most about being a parent - sharing my life with my baby girl.

If you have written a post, a poem, a sentence or want to share a picture that fills the gap of this week's sentence 'The best thing about being a parent is...', then share it in the Linky below and check out all the other entries. You can also grab the badge below to show support for Fill the Gap Friday and/or use the hashtag #fillthegap when promoting your post on Twitter.

A-Z of Me

I haven't been tagged in a meme for a while now and this week I have been tagged for the same one twice in a row? I better not waste time then and answer the questions that I've been sent by the lovely Jenny over at Mummy Mishaps and by my fellow Bristolian Frances over at Mother Venting. So here we go:

ANORAK…Do you have a sad side? I get really funny when people write in text speak. I know writing "U" instead of "you" saves you two characters but argh I just can't stand it. Words are there to be spelled out properly and really winds me up when someone doesn't.

BODY…What physical attribute would you most like to change?
Ok, did you bring plenty of time and a cup of coffee because there is plenty that I would change if it didn't involve that much effort and discipline. My bum, my legs, my tummy, my bingo wings are all things that I don't really like about my body and well, I guess if I think about it long enough about it, the list would go get even longer but I think I just have to accept that I'll never be a size 10 and just try to live as healthy as possible. I have set myself the challenge to make a conscious effort of getting a healthier and more attractive body once I have stopped breast feeding.

CELEBRITY…Which one would you most like to date and why?
Hm, can I make one person out of David Beckham and Brad Pitt? I like the look of David Beckham and he seems to be a genuinely nice guy but ehm is voice might be a hard to get used to so if I could give him Brad's voice that would be fab.

DEBUT …Tell us about your first ever blog post. What made you start blogging?
I honestly can't remember what my first ever blog post was. I have had several blogs that I wrote over the years and they all accompanied me in different situations. I blogged while I did my A-Levels and started uni, I blogged about everything and nothing in about 2006 and I blogged when I came to England in 2008 to keep in touch with my family and friends back in Germany. I love writing, so blogging is a great creative way for me to keep record of the different stages of my life.

ERROR …What’s been your biggest regret?
It might sound big headed and I guess the one or the other person in my life can think of something I should put here but in the end I am happy where I am now and I wouldn't be here if I hadn't made mistakes along the way.

FUNNY – who’s making you laugh?
My boyfriend. He's cracking me up sometimes. His jokes come so surprisingly and he always manages to put a smile on my face and there is Amy, of course. She just started giggling and we often just giggle at each other because we love the sound of each other's voices so much. I'm not that much into comedians but my absolute favourite is Alan Carr. He is hilarious and is so likeable that he gets away with being naughty to the biggest divas in the world.

GRAND…If we gave you one right now what would you spend it on?
If you want me to spend it reasonably, I would buy a new oven and get my driving license. If I could spend it on whatever I want, I would go on a nice holiday to Italy with my little family.

Copyright: www.citypictures.net

HOLIDAY… What’s your favourite destination?
I don't have a favourite destination, I guess. I love traveling so much that I am curious about exploring as many countries as I can. However, I really love Budapest and Florence.

IRRITATE… What’s your most annoying habit?
I used to bite my nails for all my life but falling pregnant with Amy stopped me do it and I still haven't done it again, so that one is off the list. I think though that I am sometimes too stubborn. I find it hard to admit that I am wrong about something and I can go days ignoring someone if I think that I've been treated unfairly.

JOKER…Whats your favourite joke {the one that makes you laugh everytime you hear it}?
"What is green and running through the woods?" - "A bunch of cucumbers!" "Have you ever seen cucumbers running through the woods?" - "No!" - "See, that's how fast they are!"

KENNEL… Do you have any pets?
Yes, a cat called Honey.

LOVE…Are you single, married, engaged, living with a long term partner?
I am living with my boyfriend Ben who I have been together with for almost three years. He is also Amy's daddy.

MEAL… Whats your ultimate starter, main and dessert? My perfect 3-course menu would be green asparagus wrapped in parma ham with a nice vinaigrette for starters, pork chops with melted brie, garlic sauteed potatoes, green asparagus and creamy mushrooms for my main course and Ben's homemade tiramisu for dessert.

NOW…If you could be anywhere right now where would you be and who with?
I'm where I want to be - with my lovely little family. Nicer weather would be great though!

OFF DUTY…What do you do in your spare time?
Spare what? Amy makes sure I don't have too much of it but if I have some time to myself, I like to read blogs, magazines, newspaper and chat away with my family and friends. I also used to go swimming regularly, so once I've stopped breast feeding I would love to take it up again.

PROUD MOMENTS …What are you most proud of?
My little family...

QUEASY …What turns your stomach?
White foods such as milk, rice pudding, egg white, cream and bananas give me the creeps. I can't even stand smelling them, so no way am I letting them anywhere near my stomach.

RELAX…How do you relax?
I love snuggling up on the sofa, reading blogs or a nice magazine and munching on chocolate or popcorn. A good chat on the phone to my mum is also on top of my list.

SONG…Whats your favourite song of all time?
Elton John's 'Your Song' - I absolutely love this song and if I ever get married, I would love it to be my first dance. I also have a real soft spot for 'Living on a Prayer' by Bon Jovi and most Take That and Robbie Williams songs but then again, I am an absolute music junkie and can be caught singing to absolutely everything.

Copyright: Elton John

TIME …If you could go back in time and relive it again, when would you choose?
I would love to go back in time and spend some more time with my grandad who passed away last year. I hadn't seen him for two years before he passed away and thinking back, I feel really bad for not having made the effort of saving more money to travel to see him when I moved to the UK.

UNKNOWN…Tell us something about yourself that no one else knows?
Ehm no ;)

VOCAL…. Who is your favourite artist? I admire the musical talent of Freddie Mercury and Elton John and if you are asking for an artist in the sense of painter, then my favourite is Keith Haring. I love his modern twist of art and the vibrant colours he used for his pieces of art.

WORK….. What is your dream job, and are you doing it now?
Yes, I have always wanted to be a journalist and working with language and in different types of media is something that gives me big satisfaction. It is creative, never boring and challenging at times - just how I like it.

XRAY…Any broken bones?
Hell yes. You name it, it's been broken. My left arm was broken on three different occasions, my right arm cracked once, my left leg had sprained ligaments on so many occasions that I have lost count and as for my right leg, well, don't get my started on that one. The story would make a whole new blog post.

YIKES…What’s been your most embarrassing moment?
I fancied that boy when I was about 16 and when I quickly popped out in my tracksuit bottoms and with messy hair, I noticed him on the other side of the road. I quickly grabbed my magazine, held it up in front of my face, pretending I was reading and slipped off the pavement. Result? Sprained ligaments...

ZOO…. If you were an animal, which one would you be? A cat, because they get spoiled all the time.

I am going to tag the following people and see if they would like to complete this Meme (you can copy a blank A-Z list from HERE)

T over at Mummy Barrow
Sarah over at Mostly Yummy Mummy

Five Songs To Live Your Life By

The lovely Liz over at The Mum Blog has tagged me in the Five Songs To Live Your Life By meme. As she has already said in her post, it is not as easy as it seems. There are hundreds of inspirational songs out there and this is where the whole matter gets tricky. I love music and I listen to lots of different genres, so how do I decide which songs I find most inspirational? Is it the ones I like best? Is it the ones I sing all the time or is it the ones that make me cry, laugh or think? Well, I've made it a mix out of all those attributes and have come up with the following five songs:

It's My Life - Jon Bon Jovi

Your Song - Elton John

Don't Worry, Be Happy - Bobby McFerrin

Eye of the Tiger - Survivor

That's What Friends Are For - Dionne Warwick & Friends

But it doesn't end here. The fun thing about memes is that you get to find out more about the people you tweet with or whose blogs you read by simply tagging them. So here we go

Jenny, Adele, Carol, Sarah, Sonia -I can't wait to find out which songs you live by, ladies!

What's in my fridge? - A Meme

It's been quite a while since I did my last meme so I'm kind of excited that I've been tagged by Jenny. I now have to show you all what's in my fridge and I have to admit that I couldn't help but giggle to myself because our weekly shopping had just been delivered a couple of hours ago - lucky me!
I didn't manage to take a picture of what's in the doors because they shut every time I stopped holding them but they store mainly drinks such as 2 bottles of cranberry-raspberry soda (made with our new SodaStream), 4 pints of milk, a bottle of Pepsi and some Cherryade. In the top shelf of the door we store all sorts of sauces and various kinds of mustard - daddy to be is a passionate chef so you can imagine he's got quite a big repertoire of things to chuck into a meal.
But let me tell you about the main part of the fridge and let's work strategically from top to bottom: At the top we've got lots of dairy products such as different cheeses, cream, butter, mascarpone and also some salad sauces. I've heard somewhere that dairy is best stored on the top shelf. No idea, if that's actually true but I've stored it there ever since.
On the middle shelf there are a whole chicken for tomorrow's roast dinner, several sliced meats such as ham, turkey breast, salami and beef and some freshly diced beef for a Beef Stroganoff that we are going to cook at the beginning of the week. As we were running out of space I had to store some cat food on the same shelf as well as some lemon juice - brilliant combination, don't you think?
A bit further down, we've got a big pack of eggs, 2 packs of cranberry juice, 2 packs of orange juice, some innocent smoothies, Glorious soups (very yummy) and some beer for daddy to be and grandad to be who'll arrive later tonight with grandma and aunty to be.
The two bottom drawers are reserved for everything healthy: cucumbers, peppers, parsnips, mushrooms, tomatoes, coriander, rosemary onions, shallots - we love fresh vegetables and herbs, so we always try to make sure we've got plenty of them at home. They just make every meal that little bit nicer, don't you think? We're also big fans of fresh fruit but as that's not stored in the fridge, you'll unfortunately won't be able to see my mahoosive collection of pineapples (I'm overdue), apples, pears and oriental pears. Maybe next time...

Right now I can't wait to find out what these lovely people have in their fridges:

Flashback Friday: Hamster cheeks - 1985/6

I went through my photos again and came across this little hamster. There's no special story behind the photo, it's just a moment that my dad caught on camera but somehow I do really like it (probably because I am looking so curious) and I thought I'd share it with you.

But now it's your turn: Share a memory from the past in Cafe Bebe's Flashback Friday Linky; a comparison to a time gone by; a season ago; a precious childhood image; anything that takes us back and gives you a smile…even if it’s through the tears. Write a post, link it up and then sit back and enjoy the memories as they wash over you. Simple! No rules, no requirements, no restrictions…just a blast from the past!

Flashback Friday: 1988 - Cuddling with Mummy

1988 - Cuddling with Mummy (4 years old)

As it was International Women's Day on Tuesday, I thought that this would be the perfect oppurtunity to show you a picture of the most important woman in my life: my mum!
My mum is my best friend and she always makes me laugh. She listens whenever I need a shoulder to cry on and she is always there for me no matter how big the mess I'm in. Everyone says how alike we are and when we are answering the phone not even my dad can tell us apart - brilliant when someone you don't want to talk to is calling...

If you’re interested in trawling back through the photo archives, then pop over to Cafe Bebe every Friday for Flashback Friday. For now, let’s just get the ball rolling. Look back in your photo archives. It can be a picture of you as a child…your child in the early days/months/years…your house before a makeover…a winter photo…a “one year ago today” photo…The sky’s the limit. Just take us back in time. Share some words to take us there and we can all get nostalgic and smiley remembering “when”. Then, the important part: Go back to Cafe Bebe and add your linky in the gadget below the current Flashback Friday post. Then visit a few blogs to continue the nostalgia and smiley-ness. Simples!

Flashback Friday: 1986 - Giving the paparazzi a run for their money

1986 - Giving the paparazzi a run for their money (18 months)

The picture above shows me on the doorstep of my grandparents' house and I like to pretend that they trusted me enough to let me, 18 month old toddler, run around with my granddad's camera. But infact, the case is empty and the picture you are now looking at has been taken with the camera that normally sits in it. My grandparents, especially my grandad, have always had a camera on them, no matter if we were just spending time in their garden or if we were having a day out. Although, I am personally not a big fan of having my picture taken nowadays, I did enjoy it back then. The best thing about my families passion for photography is that there are millions of photos that show me as a baby, toddler, and so on, so I have plenty of material to show off during the coming months. I have friends whose parents didn't bother with the whole creating memories thing, but I am grateful that my family did because, especially now that I am expecting a baby myself, I love going through my photo albums, walking down memory lane and remembering the great time I had.

Mind the gap - A fill in the blanks meme

As you might guess from the title of this post, this meme is all about filling in the gaps or blanks to let you know a little bit more about me. I was tagged by Clare from A Slice of Life and will tag five other bloggers at the end of my post. But first of all, here's what I've got to say...

I am … a chocaholic, a google junkie, a giggly optimist and a good listener. I am a night owl and I love getting up late (you see, baby isn't here yet). I also love a laugh, haha, and people I can have a good chat or discussion with. I like to think that I am fair and I have absolutely no problem telling people my true opinion when I think they are being out of order to some one. I don't have to feel liked by everyone...

The bravest thing I’ve ever done … I think I have to pass on this one. There is nothing that I have done in my life that I really consider brave. I don't safe people from burning buildings every day, I don't fight for my country in a war zone, but maybe one day there'll be something I can look back on and call brave. I mean, there are still a couple of years to go for me and I don't want to spend them sitting on the sofa...

I feel prettiest when ... I wake up with chaos hair, big bags under my eyes and my boyfriend still looks at me like I'm the prettiest thing he has ever seen. Yes, he makes me feel like this. Isn't that amazing?

Something that keeps me awake at night is ... Twitter. I hate missing the latest gossip. But usually it's a mix of Twitter, my emails or games that I am playing on my phone. I am absolutely addicted to games that want you to find hidden objects in a crammed room. Recently, my boyfriend and I started playing Words with friends, too, so I am looking at my letters for absolute ages trying to find that 125 points word that is going to destroy is heads up...

My favourite meal is ... ehm, I am a serious foodie. I like many different dishes depending on my mood. I love pasta dishes, spicy Indian and Chinese food and I am an absolute sucker for desserts and everything sweet. If I've got the choice I rather skip the starter and have dessert twice - preferably something with lots of chocolate

The way to my heart is ... honesty and a good sense of humour. It's important for me that a person can have a laugh about themselves and doesn't take themselves too serious.

I would like to be ... less afraid of snakes and maybe a bit more patient. All the other things I can work on after pregnancy, I guess.

But now it's all about you, ladies. What information do you fill your blanks with? I am tagging Karin from Cafe Bebe, Carol from Dance Without Sleeping, Karen from All About The Boys, Carly at Mummy's Shoes and Jenny at Mummy Mishaps.

The colourful Me: a meme

Yippie, I've been tagged in another meme. This time it was Catherine from Baby Genie who asked me to get thinking about myself or more precisely about what certain colours mean to me. But on to the meme now: Copy the following five colours to your blog post and add what they mean to you. It could be a word, it could be a more detailed description. The important thing is not to think too hard about it.

White
On a positive note there are snow and big fluffy clouds, on a not so nice note there is white food. You know about my dislike for it if you have read my last meme. If you haven't, it's simple: I do not like white food: no milk, no rice pudding, no egg white and and and...

Brown
My hair is brown, dark brown to be precise. Some people do even try to tell me it's black but I tend to end up in endless discussions about it because I think it's simply not right. But back to brown: My leather sofa is brown and comfy, freshly baked bread is yummy and both together make the best combination in the world, no stop, the second best combination. I forgot about my big passion for chocolate.

Purple
Our new pram for our baby girl is purple and I can't wait to use it and purple is also the colour of my bedroom wall. And yepp, there are Deep, Deep Purple. I do not particularly like or dislike them. They just came to my mind when I read the word purple.

Orange
To be honest orange is always a tad too bright for me to fully like it. I wouldn't paint my walls orange nor would I wear anything orange. It makes me look pale and it's just too much for me. It's my boyfriend's favourite colour though.

Yellow
Tennis balls, the sun and bananas – I like the first two (Well, wait a minute liking tennis balls is a bit odd, isn't it? Let's say I don't mind them as they make my boyfriend, who is a keen tennis player, happy.) but I can't stand bananas. They make me gag and I don't like their smell either. But hey, baby chicks are yellow, aren't they? They are cute...

But now it's on to you, ladies. I tag Carol from New Mummy's Tips, Karin from Café Bébé and Jenny from Mummy Mishaps. Can't wait to read about your colourful confessions.
